Studying at FLV

What’s it like to study at the Dr Lazar Vrkatić Faculty of Law and Business Studies?

Students’ education and training are our main purpose. From the very first day, students will experience a genuine and professional academic environment – an environment in which dedicated work is held in high value, which fosters innovativeness and social engagement, and develops a sense of solidarity and community. We aim to build an environment in which students feel free to seek help with any problem or difficulty and where students who inspire their peers with their hard work and dedication are valued and rewarded.

Teaching Concept

Lectures are held in small groups. Doing practical work and case studies enables our students to develop their potentials and affinities within a selected programme. Linking theory and practice is our motto – we believe that this makes learning an interactive process and equips our students with useful skills for a successful professional career and life. Regular consultations with professors stimulate closer relationships between students and their mentors, which can grow into long-term cooperation, even friendship.

Extracurricular Activities

We encourage our students to expand their education and to take part in activities not closely related to their studies. The Faculty regularly organizes panels, guest lectures, round tables and conferences where students can hear and meet eminent experts from both the academia and practice. Through practical work, students get to know the workings of state and private institutions and companies that might be their future employers. Our Student Parliament organizes various social events in order to exchange knowledge and experience between students, and to encourage students’ social responsibility towards their community.

Professors and Students

We foster a close, friendly relationship between students and their professors. We believe that students are not just passive recipients of knowledge, but that they should be active participants in their own education. The teaching concept which favours work in small groups, practical and interactive classes enables our students to develop their potential in cooperation with their professors. Our students are treated as our future colleagues, young people who are at the beginning of their exceptional and interesting careers. We encourage inquisitiveness and interactive learning, because in this way we also learn and develop together with our students.

Premises

The Faculty premises extend over 2,300 square meters and are fully adapted to the modern way of studying. All classrooms have audio-visual equipment. In addition to the regular classrooms, we have equipped special rooms for the individual requirements of our study programmes. In this way, Law students can practice their skills at the moot court room, Psychology students can practice their skills in a consulting room, and English language students have a conference interpretation practice room, while Security and Crime Science students have access to different forensic and technical equipment which will help them in their future career.

Textbooks

Free textbooks published by the Faculty are available at the Student’s Offices. In this way students save time and are spared the stress of searching for textbooks and other resources.

Registrar’s Office and Students

The main principle of the Registrar’s Office is to provide service parallel to the Faculty’s high quality level. Our mission is to transfer accurate information to the students, academic and administrative personnel with a warm attitude and at the right time.

Student Exchange and Further Education

The programme curricula have been designed in accordance with the Bologna process and the EHEA (European Higher Education Area). Students can compare their qualifications with similar qualifications acquired by students at other European higher education institutions. They can apply for student exchange programmes or continue their studies at a similar higher education institution in Europe, which is a prerequisite for future integration processes and free exchange of intellectual resources in Europe.

Scholarships

The Lazar Vrkatić Foundation was founded in June 2008 in Novi Sad by Professor Lazar Vrkatić's family, with the aim of preserving the memory of his pedagogical, scientific, intellectual, humanitarian, and socially engaged work. The Foundation awards three types of scholarships. The first type is granted to high school graduates, the second to the Faculty of Law and Business Studies students, and the third to any philosophy students studying in the Republic of Serbia. Based on the competition announced by the Lazar Vrkatić Foundation, the best-ranking students of undergraduate programmes are awarded scholarships for the next academic year.
